About ChessRetake
ChessRetake is a free chess trainer that turns your own Chess.com and Lichess games into personal practice. Instead of solving random puzzles, you replay the exact positions where you went wrong in your real games, until you find the right move every time.
How it works
1. Enter your Chess.com or Lichess username on the Import tab. Your recent games are downloaded straight from the public Chess.com and Lichess APIs.
2. Every game is checked with the Stockfish chess engine, running inside your browser. Positions where you missed a winning tactic, blundered a piece or let a won endgame slip are saved as exercises.
3. Practice a little every day. Exercises you get wrong come back sooner, and the ones you solve come back after longer and longer breaks (spaced repetition), so the lessons from your own games stick.
What you can practice
Today: a short daily set built from your own mistakes, with a streak to keep you going.
Tactics: the forks, pins, mates and winning captures you missed in your games.
Endgames: play out your own endgames against the computer, plus classic basic endgames such as king and queen against king, the Lucena and the Philidor positions.
Openings: replay the openings you actually play as White and as Black, and learn where you tend to leave the main lines.
Report: your accuracy, your weakest openings and the types of mistakes you make most often.
Frequently asked questions
Is ChessRetake free? Yes. All training features are free and supported by ads. An optional Premium plan removes ads, syncs your progress between devices and lets you choose the board, pieces and background.
Where are my games stored? In your own browser on this device. Your games are never uploaded to our servers, and you can delete everything at any time in Settings.
Do I need an account? No. You only need your Chess.com or Lichess username. An account is needed only for Premium.
Can I use it during a game? No. ChessRetake is for reviewing finished games. Using analysis tools during a game breaks the fair play rules of Chess.com and Lichess.
ChessRetake is an independent project and is not affiliated with Chess.com or Lichess.
